Is there a home remedy for kennel cough?

I just adopted a dog from the pound, and it sounds like she has a case of kennel cough. I know they say it goes away in about 1-2 weeks on it’s own, but it’s very distressing to me.. Is there something i can do on my own to lessen her symptoms?
ATTENTION EVERYONE:
kennel cough is caused by a virus…. a VIRUS is not affected by antibiotics, which are created to treat bacteria. I’m just asking if there’s something to ease this cough…

Kennel cough does not usually go away on it’s own. It needs to be treated with antibiotics.
Get him to the vet.
EDIT – Kennel cough usually leads to secondary bacterial infections, which is why antibiotics are routinely prescribed. Yes, it is caused by a virus, but a throat full of mucus is prime ground for bacteria to grow and rarely does it not lead to a bacterial infection. There is a reason 99 times out of a 100 vets prescribe antibiotics for kennel cough. Do you want to wait until your dog has a severe bacterial infection to get treatment?

Time.
You can get antibiotics for the dog.

You are mistaken. KC is a group of diseases, not always a virus. Bacteria can also cause it.
