border terrier and westipoo walking?

Hi, my friend has a female border terrier and male westipoo, both of about 4 months old. they get on really well in general, especially during a walk through the park. however, when a walk in the park comes to an end and they are put back on their leads to return to the car, they suddenly want to tear eachothers heads off. not literally, but they go unusually mad to try and get eachother! only at the end of the walk once put back on their leads.once in the car, they are fine again. its very bizzarre, and i wondered if anyone had any ideas as to why?
Hope you can help.
Thanks

Without seeing them in action it’s hard to say for sure but if they are only 4 months old it’s more likely that they are protesting the end of the walk by play fighting with each other. I suggest you call them back to you a little and often while off lead, reward them when they return then send them oof to play again. This will make the end of the walk less traumatic. Best of luck x
