We had 4 growing up. Males can be jealous of other pets. Females are usually sweet and loving. IMO, they are a good dog for sure. Alittle nervous perhaps, but loyal.

its a nice dog, but sometimes shows a pissed off attitude, binges on fosters though so be warned… well what else , it hops around carrying beer in its pouch and calls everone ‘matey’…

Well, before getting any pure breed dog or cat, the proper and smart thing to do is to do tons of research so you know exactly what to expect with your breed and if it is indeed the right breed for you. I’m assuming you didn’t do this and since you are getting it tomorrow, I guess it’s a little too late for that. So many people don’t do the research and buy a dog on looks alone and then find out it’s not the right breed for them. Often these poor dogs end up neglected or in shelters. Australian terriers are very cute but they do have the typical terrier personalities.Terriers in general can be willful and stubborn, and terrier adolescence can be a very trying experience for the novice owner. An Aussie should NEVER run loose – always keep them on a leash when walking them! As with many terriers the instinct to hunt and chase is so strong that he will not stop to check traffic if he sees a squirrel or strange cat. Speaking of cats, I hope you don’t have any small cats or other small animals in your household. Terriers are ratters by nature and have been know to kill smaller household pets – it’s instinctual. Not to just focus on the negative, they can be great dogs; very loyal and sweet but I would strongly suggest to buy a book on the breed so you know what you are getting into and what to expect.

I have a five month old Australian Terrier pup, Kazimeras. I’ve had various terriers for years, I’ve been researching this breed, as well as breeders for quite some time. Like all terriers, they can be a little headstrong, so don’t be afraid to be firm despite their smaller puppy size. Look into crate training, NILIF, and clicker training.
I got my litttle guy from a breeder in Neceda Wisconsin, she is totally devoted to the dogs she breeds. Any questions feel free to e-mail me. Everything I have been doing with terriers for over 30 years is way too much to even try to post here.

Australian terrier – Wow – You luck, luck lady. We had to stand on our head to convince our breeder to sell us one. We now have two. http://www.flickr.com/photos/11886874@N03/1198136069/
Our girl is 3 and the boy will be 2 next month. I have had dogs all my life, with many different breeds, but this breed is very special. Our vet was the one who told us how wonderful they are.
You did not mention if you have a girl or boy. Girls are little escape articles, they also become board easy. Aussies make poor fence runners, they need their people. They love life, courageous and clever. As a terrier, they will challenge you, but not like most terriers; therefore, a training program is a must. Potty training can be a challenge. I socialize mine with other dogs and children at a young age and this has paid off. You can e-mail me if you have any questions.
Also – This is something I started.
