Sure it can be a great family dog, if you’re willing to put the effort into training it. They can be a little stubborn, but so can a lot of other breeds.

if i were you, start your family on a golden retrever. i have 2 i have never been bitten, as long as you have some one to walk, brush, possibly swim with, feed, and let out, golden is perfect for u. they also have webbed paws that r perfect for swimming! if you have a pool or creek its a even happier dog! they mostly love children too!

Unless you’re looking for a dog for protection as well as companionship i recommend a miniature dachshund, they can be stubborn but they are VERY loyal and smart.

i would get any dachshund for children under 8years, they can be temperamental. Border Terriers would be a great choice. they may prove alittle more difficult to train, but would do well children, especially if raised them from a puppy.
Other dogs to think about, these are bigger dogs, but very good with kids anyways.
Labrador
Newfoundland

Just be sure you’re familiar with terriers before you get one. They’re wonderful dogs, but if you’re used to a more laid-back dog, a terrier can be a shock to the system. They’re active, headstrong, and feisty, but also sweet and loving. Just know all this going into it.
